We take privacy very seriously, as trust is crucial for maintaining a therapeutic relationship. As examples of such, we use only HIPAA compliant software for patient communication and require all communication regarding medical or mental health needs to be through such. We do not include “mental health” or “psychiatry” in billing on your credit card statement to support your privacy. We do not confirm whether an individual is or is not in our care without explicit permission to do so.
For individuals seeking services without anyone else being made aware, we recommend individuals pay privately for services as insurance companies often require clinical information for treatment.
For children, we require explicit permission from parents/guardians to provide care. Teenagers who can express their own desires regarding privacy in their treatment can limit some information disclosed to the parents, which is crucial for fostering a relationship of trust with our staff. We will work to ensure good communication within a given family on all mental health needs, as this is often a goal of treatment. Please note, however, that if a minor is at a severe risk of suicide, parents/guardians must be notified. If anyone is at a severe risk of homicide this information must be shared in the legal and ethical obligation for safety.
